Narooma:It would be hard to imagine a lovelier spot at which to vacation. The weather, people, and setting of Narooma come close to being perfect. The name of this town comes from the Aborigines and refers to the wonderful clarity and purity of the water that laps the beaches of Narooma. Whether you are coming for the fishing, for one of the festivals, or just to escape a northern winter, you will find this town ideal in all respects. The lodgings are clean, comfortable, and reasonable in price, and the owners are ready to help you in any way they can. It would not be far off the mark to say that when you come to Narooma you will find friends.
Narooma is located on the south eastern coast of Australia in New South Wales. Wagonga Inlet protects the Narooma beaches and provides excellent opportunities for swimming, sunbathing, snorkeling, and all kinds of water sports. Narooma is an unspoiled town – large enough to provide you with all the facilities and services necessary to a comfortable stay, but small enough to retain its charm. While most people are interested in visiting Narooma during the summer (especially those who are escaping a harsh winter in the north), the gentle winter of Narooma means that this town can be enjoyed at any time of the year.
Narooma can offer the angler a wonderful opportunity to catch a fish he or she will be able to brag about for years. A fishing charter with one of the companies operating out of Narooma will let you relax, enjoy the views, besides getting in plenty of fishing. The boats offer all the gear you will need and cater to both experienced and inexperienced fishermen. Game fishing is also a possibility, with marlin and tuna abounding in the deeper waters off the Continental Shelf. There are also plenty of fish to be had in the estuaries and Wagonga Inlet itself. You will be able to view the seals and penguins on Montague Island from the boat as well.
As Narooma is now part of the Batemans Marine Park, commercial fishing has been banned, so you can be sure that fish once again abound in the waters off this town.
Naroomais also home to several wonderful festivals throughout the year, and timing your visit to coincide with one of these will make your vacation even more fun.
The Oyster Festival takes advantage of the extensive oyster beds around Narooma and is your chance to enjoy this delicious mollusk fresh from the ocean. This festival is held in the beginning of May and begins with a fireworks display and ‘Welcome To The Country’ program. The following day will be filled with great events and plenty of food, as you will be able to sample a multitude of oyster dishes. You will be able to enjoy live music, an oyster parade, children’s fun, and an exhibition of antique cars.
November sees the Boats Afloat Festival in Narooma, and you don’t need a boat to enjoy this fun-filled holiday. You’ll be able to participate in a ‘Stickybeak Session’ and enjoy live music all day from a jazz band. The boat parade will draw your attention as will the great food and auction.
If you are looking for a place where you can relax and enjoy a friendly atmosphere, as well as experience the beautiful beaches and water, Narooma is where you will want to schedule your vacation.
